Geomorphometry is the science of quantitative land-surface analysis (also known as digital terrain modelling and analysis). It draws upon mathematical, statistical, and image-processing techniques to quantify the shape of Earth's topography at various spatial scales.

We invite submissions to a special issue on "Advances in geomorphometry: new technologies, data and software for DEM analysis" to coincide with the conference Geomorphometry 2013, held in Nanjing, China, in October 2013. Papers are invited from conference participants but also from those in the broader academic community active in this field.

The aim of the special issue is to showcase papers illustrating how geomorphometry can be used in Earth and environmental sciences and the potential of using new technologies, DEM data sets and software tools to parameterize land surface morphology.
